Introduction

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the way in which we socialize has been greatly altered. We have all searched to maintain as much connection as what we had been used to.

The biggest problem is that many of these mediums act as a barrier of glass between individuals that involves passive engagement.

Lack of adequate information and resources is also a major obstacle when deciding how to entertain and engage individuals isolated from their typical social lives

As we've progressed, the use of zoom has been more frequent. However, we are still missing a platform that accommodates and fulfills the interests of all users.

How does livli  work?

1. ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT

Allow for users to actively comment and react to discussions, conferences, and keynotes held by individuals in their social circles as well as admirable public figures.

2. PERSONAL MEETINGS

Introduce smaller meeting opportunities where there is limited seating as a strategy for a more intimate and exclusive experience.

3. TRENDING EVENTS

Create an experiential platform where trending, live-events could be broadcasted to gather public reactions and offer accessibility.

1. User Research

Starting off, I wanted to understand the users personas and ask a series of questions to understand their obstacles in working and conducting their social life virtually. While interviewing ten users (who come from a wide-range of being introverted to extroverted) I was able to gain insight in how their needs and interests could be met. In many of these responses there were correlations in how to address the obstacle for engagement .

USER INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1.
How has quarantine/lockdown impacted your day-to-day life?
2. On a scale of 1 - 10 (1 introverted 10 extroverted) what would you rate yourself?
3. What platforms do you currently use to stay social?
4. What applications do you use to entertain yourself?
5. What do you think we’ve been lacking since the beginning of the pandemic?
6. How do you think we could be more engaged?

Problem Discovery

At this stage, my main goal was to discover and define the problems from users and hosts

Being a college student myself, and having many friends whose social lives were changed in how we interact virtually was immediately helpful in providing insights in how we encountered the way in which meetings, events, and conferences were adapted.

User Personas

USERS —

Lack of an intuitive interface from platforms such as zoom makes the experience bland
Restricted action and movement does not allow users to interact with one another
No opportunity for customizability when it comes to expression (only typing in chat)
Practically no different from watching a Youtube video at you own pace.

Hosts/Creators —

No participation from participants; Users simply sit and watch
Practically no diversity in topic and all the details of events are given beforehand
No anticipation and sense of fulfillment in tuning-in
No engagement taking place actively nor passively. Users enter and leave without talking to each other

Solution Discovery —

Having listed these problems, we were set on implementing the following strategies:

• Allow for hosts / creators to add friends and develop interest groups to find more engaged users
• Give users the option to react and follow along with those hosting workshops / events for more engagement
• Create an app where content creators have the same opportunity as Youtube, Instagram, etc, but encourage their followers to participate
• Leverage limited seating to build scarcity and interest and momentous movements.
• Encourage payment of sitting in exclusive events for money to go towards an important initiative as a donation

We then brainstormed what was core to the values of this new social application. With a potential solution and solidified strategies in mind, we then developed a flow chart diagram to identify user processes and correlate actions that could simplify the movement through pages. This way we were able to create an app with an efficient user flow where both sides correspond and can be looped.

4. Wireframing

In approaching the wireframing process I wanted to create an operation that would require as little pages to encourage intuition. After much trial and error, this was the result of keeping the user 5 clicks from their desired destination.

Flexibility:

This layout and core structure takes the initiative of imitating other social media application, but adapts itself for users to set their own guidelines and restriction depending on their interests.
